A Wonderful Experience At Colorado Springs
September 14, 2009.

Colorado Springs is much more than a mere mountain escape. Located only an hour south of Denver near the base of pikes peak a soaring mountain whose summit is famous for inspiring Katherine Bates to write "America the Beautiful". It is the second largest city in Colorado and is the seat of El Paso County. Colorado Springs is important to the U S military. The U S air force and army have nearby bases, as does the north american aerospace defense command, or norad, located somewhere inside Cheyenne mountain. The area is also an important base for christian conservatism and several major evangelical mega churches.
There are so many things to do and see in Colorado Springs and the nearby mountains that you can spend weeks there without getting bored. From jaw-dropping natural attractions such as pikes peak, garden of the gods and cave of the winds to a plethora of man-made attraction that include ancient manitou cliff dwellings, a host of eclectic museums, and the historic broadmoor hotel and glen eyrie castle—you'd be pushed to find another area with so many family-friendly things to do. Colorado Springs is a haven for hikers, mountain climbers and those looking for the type of rest and rejuvenation, only breathtaking natural beauty can do the magic. Back down on the ground there is a plethora of man-made attractions to explore, including the Cheyenne mountain zoo and an authentic old western town reconstructed from buildings that were abandoned after the region's gold mining era. Don't miss the tactile gallery at the fine arts center designed for the physically challenged, which showcases pieces that are "touchable" and offers braille and large print labels.

History lurks around every corner, and many visitors focus on visiting old ghost towns, gold-panning creeks, cowboy camps, dude ranches and the national rodeo museum. Of course, this is also a modern city and there are fine arts, performing arts, competitive sports, and a wonderful bike and trail system. Colorado Springs is also the site of one of the three united states olympic training centers. The biggest Colorado Springs attractions are its natural wonders: pikes peak, garden of the gods and cave of the winds. If you are near Colorado Springs you have to stop at garden of the gods to enjoy the wonderful views. The rock formations are beautiful and it's a great place for a scenic stroll. There are a lot of birds, deer, and we even saw a coyote. Beautiful, right near the city, and it's free. Be sure to look for the "kissing camels”. If you are into rock climbing there are several climbs available. Horse riding is also available. Once you've been there you'll want to return!
