An Entertaining Trip To New Haven With Family On A Charter Bus
August 19, 2009.

New haven is one of america's oldest cities as you look out across Long Island sound and the first planned community. Settled by english puritans in the mid-seventeenth century, its illustrious history is peppered with names such as Noah webster, Nathan hale, and Eli Whitney. The city is now Connecticut' third largest, and is home to several health, business, and finance companies. New Haven is often called "The Elm City" for the numerous elm trees that adorned the landscape before most of the trees were wiped out by disease. Yale university imparts a world-famous cultural and educational presence to the elm city and graces it with magnificent architecture. The Yale university art gallery is as famous for its collection as it is for its building, a modernist masterpiece designed by Louis Kahn. The city's charm is particularly evident in tree-lined wooster square, the historic town green, and the restaurants and shopping of the college-chapel street district. Other claims to fame include the debut of the hamburger in 1895 and the introduction of pizza to the United States. Don't miss the exceptional museums or the extraordinary theater productions produced in New Haven and also by all means, the pizza’s. New Haven is home to the nation's oldest art museum, the Yale university art gallery, and the most extensive collection of british art outside Britain, the yale center for british art.

For a city of its size New Haven is an abode of numerous museums and other attractions, many of which are connected to Yale university. Yale center for british art is home to the biggest and most wide-ranging collection of british art outside of the united kingdom. Peabody museum of natural history has everything from egyptian mummies to saber toothed cats. Under the museum's roof are more then 11 million specimens and objects. Great place for kids and their families and teachers and lots of hands on exhibits as you visit the connecticut children's museum. Pardee Morris house was burned during the battle of new haven when 3000 british troops invaded the city. This landmark is closed to visitors but you can still walk around and snap some photos of this historic structure.

New Haven is not a major sports town like New York city, Boston and even Hartford but New Haven has its own share of sports teams and events. When you visit New Haven and the towns that surround it, you can't help but notice the deep admiration shop owners have for their artisans, as well as their customers. The wave gallery features work from local artists and craftsmen. Fairhaven furniture makes and selects unique pieces that demonstrate both function and aesthetic excellence. And Madison's R J Julia booksellers is more about the passion for reading than the books themselves. Antiques and collector's items can be found throughout the entire greater New Haven area, at old curiosity and consignment shops, and at larger antique centers. Fashionistas will find plenty at chapel street's upscale boutiques, while bargain hunters will head straight to clinton crossing premium outlets. Window shoppers can drop in and out of the eclectic shops that line downtown Branford, Guilford, Madison and Milford. And trendsetters will find what they're looking for on virtually any block in New Haven.
