An Unforgettable Peoria Trip

Peoria is a city in Maricopa and Yavapai counties in the state of Arizona. Located primarily in Maricopa county, it is a major suburb of Phoenix. Peoria is currently the fourth largest city in the state of Arizona in terms of land area, and the ninth largest city in the state in terms of population. The city was named after Peoria, Illinois. Peoria sits on flat gently sloping desert terrain in the salt river valley, and extends into the foothills of the mountains to the north. Like all desert towns, the key to Peoria’s settlement was water. Seasonal rainfall and runoff from mountain snowmelt filled the salt river, at times flooding the valley with too much water.
Peoria continues to grow successfully, and it has gained a world-class educational and cultural destination, the challenger space center of Arizona. Also in 2007 the city completed the Peoria center for the performing arts. Today most of the city’s growth is taking place in North Peoria. The city invested heavily in the sports complex and the stadium draws many tourists, concerts, weddings, business events, boat tours, and festivals. This fuels the restaurants and hotels in the area.

One of the main concentrations of shopping opportunities can be found around the Peoria sports complex. The arrowhead fountain center has become the dining center of the west valley. This area has one of the highest concentrations of restaurants in the region. In and around the arrowhead fountain center you will find a restaurant that will meet any taste, whether it is japanese, chinese, mexican, steaks and chops, italian, southwestern, or american cuisine. And of course, if you would like sports with your meal, peoria offers a variety of sports bars.

The skye restaurant also brings elegant dining, dancing, and live music to the area. Located on the Northern end of Peoria and about 45 minutes from downtown Phoenix, Lake Pleasant covers 10,000 acres. Utilized as a holding lake, its water comes from two sources, central Arizona project canal and the aqua fria river. Being second largest lake and offers a wide variety of recreational activities. General camping, RV accommodations, boating, sailing, water and jet skiing, and fishing are just some of the activities offered at the lake.
